How will the smaller companies cope with these electricity hikes?

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Energy constitutes a major input cost for a large proportion of businesses. The increase will surely have a ripple impact on businesses, sending the prices of products soaring in the near future.  Business Unity South Africa said that it was buoyed that only a 24,8% had been approved.

Nedbank economist Carmen Altenkirch said that the increases would hit small to medium enterprises hard. Her exact words were “These are the enterprises that are responsible for a lot of job creation and they were hit hardest by the recession”.

The Independent Democrats (ID) warned that the hikes will cripple our economy, consumers and small businesses, and has committed us to a coal-fired energy future South Africa and the world can ill-afford.

If you want to break away from the rat race, start to cut your electricity bill now! Anyone with a geyser has the opportunity of installing a geyserwise unit for only R1 650 (upgradeable to a full solar system later) and immediately starting to cut up to 30% off their electricity bill.  Businesses can switch off their geysers automatically during the nights and on weekends this way, click here for more info Geysersmart.
