Forthcoming legislation on Solar!

Monday, April 26th, 2010

In July 2002, Eskom was converted from a statutory body into a public company as Eskom Holdings Limited, in terms of the Eskom Conversion Act, 13 of 2001. The two-tier governance structure of the Electricity Council and the Management Board was replaced by a Board of Directors. Eskom produces approximately 60% of the electricity on the African continent and, in terms of generating capacity, is the TENTH largest power company in the world.

Eskom’s 26 power stations are located in different parts of the country, they use coal, water, kerosene or uranium as their primary energy source and between themtogether keep the lights burning throughout southern Africa. Forthcoming legislation will apparently require all of us to have solar geysers fitted at our residences by 2012.

So why not avoid the rush and start now, South African solar hotwater heating specialist GeyserSmart has just launched a high pressure solar geyser which is the first affordable solar geyser for South Africa www.geysersmart.co.za .

Eskom raises their cash-back rebate!

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

In an aggressive effort  to convince more South Africans to use solar geysers, Eskom is raising the cash-back rebate offer to consumers. Previously an average of 20 percent of the money spent on a solar geyser was returned by Eskom to the purchaser, now the company is offering a new rebate system that is really exciting for all.  The previous rebate system has been running for 2 years already but has failed to create the excitement or enticement desired by the power giant.  If you think about it, this increased subsidy offer is actually much cheaper for Eskom than building an entire new power plant!  Of course the main aim is to lower the electricity demand urgently.  According to them, they need thousands and thousands of households to install solar geysers as soon as possible for us to get through this issue.  The urgent project is – TO LOWER ELECTRICITY DEMAND. Our company has brought the first affordable solar system to South Africa,  our systems are robust and have an incredibly long life expectancy, so they will last a long, long time!  If you want to be part of this solution, click here www.geysersmart.co.za to check out what systems we have on offer.  Our geyser management systems start from as little as R1450.

Eskoms multi-year tariff increase approved by NERSA!

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

The National Electricity Regulator of South Africa’s (Nersa) decision on Eskom’s multi-year tariff increase application elicited threats of strikes and serious concerns of job losses.  NERSA announced that it was granting Eskom a 24,8% tariff increase for 2010, 25,8% for 2011, and 25,9% for 2012.  Cosatu’s comment was that it was 4 times the current rate of inflation and totally unacceptable.

Many businesses which are already struggling for the last few years now will go out of business with these sorts of increase in costs.  This will in turn cause job losses which is not what we need right now.  Fedusa was equally outraged and disappointed.

What businesses and home owners can do now is to minimise their electricity usage, for example the geyser is an electricity pig, eating all day.  If you are interested in cutting up to 30% off your electricity account, simply by cleverly managing your geyser, click here GeyserSmart

Electricity prices go through the roof!

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Nersa granted state-owned company Eskom a  24,8% tariff increase for the 2010/11 financial year.

The increase is short in terms of what they requested which was 35%, but analysts have said that the effect on the economy will still be huge and effect us for 20 years ahead.

Eskom was also granted nominal increases of 25,8% and 25,9% respectively for the following two financial years.  Eskom wanted to hike electricity prices by 35% a year for three years, to help it raise R385-billion to build more plants and avoid the blackouts that crippled the industry in 2008.  People have to get clever now and start to save on electricity, click here to find out how you can start to save up to 30% on your electricity bill immediately Geysersmart
