Electricity prices go through the roof!
Monday, April 19th, 2010Nersa granted state-owned company Eskom a 24,8% tariff increase for the 2010/11 financial year.
The increase is short in terms of what they requested which was 35%, but analysts have said that the effect on the economy will still be huge and effect us for 20 years ahead.
Eskom was also granted nominal increases of 25,8% and 25,9% respectively for the following two financial years. Eskom wanted to hike electricity prices by 35% a year for three years, to help it raise R385-billion to build more plants and avoid the blackouts that crippled the industry in 2008.
